Summary:
When businesses rise above the common notion that waste
is an acceptable folly, when buck-passing stops and top
executives are willing to put themselves, as well as
their organizations, under critical examination, the
potentials for business improvement are infinite. There
is almost certainly a 25 percent increase in
productivity forthcoming.
It is this increased productivity that creates a
Recession Proof organization that is capable of
withstanding and surviving general economic downturns
without resorting to quick fixes such as employee
layoffs.
Potentials are not easily realized, the real problems
are seldom obvious, goals are not easily set and the
obstacles that lie in the way of fulfillment are
formidable.
Management's self-examination is distracted by the daily
drive for business. But more than that, management's
view of itself is subjective, and therefore, likely to
be distorted, prejudiced and inhibited in many ways.
Even if management could rise above such barriers, a
concerted, professional self-appraisal is nearly
impossible because few businesses have the time or the
necessary specialized talents on their regular staff.
Why should they?
There is no continuing need for such people in the
normal running of a business. It is more economically
sound to turn to a highly trained staff of professionals
whose talents are complementary and whose view from
outside the business can be purely objective.
